C-0038 Under review MODERATE certainty

Correcting C-0027, whose ANEC half X-0037 refuted. The quantum-inequality half stands unchanged: Fewster and Osterbrink show that for couplings 0 < xi <= 1/4 — a range including conformal coupling xi = 1/6 — local averages of the energy density are unbounded from below over Hadamard states, so the state-independent Ford-Roman-type bound is genuinely lost, while a state-DEPENDENT quantum energy inequality still holds on general globally hyperbolic spacetimes. What was wrong was reading Fliss, Freivogel, Kontou and Santos as restoring the averaged null energy condition in general. Their own text restricts the quantum-field-theoretic proof to flat space: they recover ANEC for any coupling in MINKOWSKI spacetime, and their conclusion cites a hoped-for extension to finite curvature as future work. The correction is not a hedge but a reversal of the conclusion: Urban and Olum exhibit ANEC violation by a conformally coupled scalar in a conformally flat spacetime in 3+1 dimensions, state-dependent and 'can be made as large as desired', and — because all geodesics in conformally flat spacetimes are achronal — the ACHRONAL ANEC is violated too. Conformal coupling sits inside the very range Fewster-Osterbrink covers. So the non-minimal-coupling escape is not closed by effective field theory in curved spacetime; it is open in curved backgrounds and closed only in flat ones. This makes it the strongest surviving escape route in the corpus, and its price has still never been computed for a warp configuration.

Standing our synthesis · interpretation · TRL 1 Assumes Fewster-Osterbrink 2008 (S-0019) for the QI half; Fliss et al 2023 (S-0020) read WITH its Minkowski restriction; Urban-Olum 2010 (S-0029) for the curved-space violation; Urban-Olum's construction is a test field with a perturbative backreaction argument, not a self-consistent solution Stops applying flat backgrounds, where S-0020's restoration does apply; and any claim that this escape DELIVERS a warp drive — no source prices it, which is exactly the open work Note Supersedes C-0027 (RED via X-0037). Root cause: I read a paper's headline result ('ANEC obeyed') without carrying its spacetime qualifier, which its own body states one paragraph later. Same failure class as C-0021's Eulerian-only positivity and C-0036's dropped 'dominated' — the qualifier is the content. The counter-source S-0029 was located by the red team, resolved live (my asserted title AND first author name were both wrong from recall and were corrected from the registry), retraction CLEAN.

… field, extending a previous investigation of the classical field. By an explicit example, we show that such averages are unbounded from below on the class of Hadamard states. This contrasts with the minimally coupled field, which obeys a state-independent lower bound known as a Quantum Energy Inequality (QEI). Nonetheless, we derive a generalised QEI…

We analyse the state-dependence of our QEI in four-dimensional Minkowski space and show that it is a non-trivial restriction on the averaged energy density in the sense that the lower bound is of lower order, in energetic terms, th…

Since all geodesics in conformally flat spacetimes are achronal, the achronal averaged null energy condition is likewise violated.
